BACHELOR OR MASTER STUDIES:

  • March 1st, 2026– August 31st, 2026, 4 PM (Romania time zone, GMT+3): Online file submission via the platform https://apply.upt.ro/ or in person at the Department for International Relations (DRI), Office 107, Piața Victoriei no. 2, Timișoara.
    • Candidates who have been approved for priority admission (deferred entry) must re-apply on https://apply.upt.ro/ no later than March 30th, 2026, according to the methodology in force for the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • September 28th, 2026  –  January 31st, 2027:  Enrolment at Politehnica University Timișoara (UPT)
    • Students will make travel plans for enrollment purposes before January 31, 2027. Arriving in Romania after this date involves the risk of being refused entry to the country at the border.
    • Enrolment at UPT requires the applicant’s physical presence at Politehnica University Timișoara, International Relations Department (DRI–UPT), Office 107, Piața Victoriei no. 2, Timișoara. For the enrolment, applicants must present the original study documents (diploma, transcripts, medical certificate, passport) as well as a set of copies of all documents provided in the application file.

English language requirements

You must hold one of the following recognized English language certificates: TOEFL, Cambridge, IELTS, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), TRINITY ISE, European Consortium for the Certificate of Attainment in Modern Languages (ECL) or you can present official school documents proving that you studied in English for at least two years (English was the medium of instruction for at least two years).

If you do not meet either of the above, you can take the English language test organized by the INTERLINGUA Center of Politehnica University Timișoara (UPT):

  • The test is conducted exclusively online, via Zoom.
  • Required equipment: a device with a camera and microphone (computer/laptop/tablet/phone), internet connection, and the Zoom app installed.
  • Candidates must keep their camera and microphone on throughout the test, and join the session using their real full name. The written part of the test (max. 2 hours) must be handwritten. Pages must include name, date, and number of pages, and must be signed. After completion, candidates must photograph or scan each page and send them via reply email, within 15 minutes.
  • Evaluation is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  • Tests are scheduled on the following dates: 11.03.2026, 08.04.2026, 29.04.2026, 20.05.2026, 03.06.2026

Romanian language preparatory year

Politehnica University Timișoara is accredited to organize the Romanian Language Preparatory Year in the fields of mathematics and natural sciences, engineering sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts, biological and biomedical sciences. This intensive language course is mandatory for international students who wish to enroll in full-degree study programs taught in Romanian.

The Preparatory Year in learning Romanian language is a perfect way to get accustomed with the culture and vocabulary. It is an intensive one-year programme, very well structured, which guarantees you the skill to continue with the dream program in Romanian in Architecture, Chemistry or any other further engineering choice. Besides indoor classes, we also do many outdoor activities. The melting pot of cultural background of students, make the UPT Language Preparatory Year a world within the world and a great opportunity to make global friends. We have students from: Algeria, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Syria, Cambogia, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Ecuador, Congo, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Kazakhstan, Comoro Islands, Colombia, Cameroon. Come and join us!

Application file for Bachelor's study programmes

The application file shall comprise the following documents:

1. Application for the issuance of the letter of acceptance for studies (see section “Admission methodology and annexes” below) – fully and correctly filled in, including a photograph of the applicant, dated and signed;

2. Baccalaureate diploma or its equivalent – copy and legally certified translation (in Romanian, English or French). The document shall be authenticated by the competent authorities in the issuing country;

  • Candidates with diplomas issued in NIGERIA shall also provide a double-sided copy of the NECO results card for the higher school certificate issued by NECO or of the WAEC Scratch card for the West African senior school certificate
  • Copy and legally certified translation of the certificate attesting the successful passing of the Baccalaureate examination for graduates of the current year if the original diploma has not yet been issued;
  • Check the list of  high school diplomas recognized by the Ministry of Education for the admission of foreign citizens to Bachelor studies
  • The interruption between the end of the applicant’s last studies (i.e. the date the last diploma was obtained) and the current year of application should not exceed 5 years. By applying despite not meeting this requirement, the candidate accepts the risk of rejection by the faculty and/or the risk of not obtaining a visa.

3. Transcripts of academic records – copies and legally certified translations in Romanian, English or French;

4. Certificate attesting the graduation of the Romanian language Preparatory Year (for study programmes taught in Romanian) or English language certificate (for study programmes taught in English), as applicable;

5. Copy and legally certified translation in Romanian, English or French of the birth certificate;

6. Copy and legally certified translation in Romanian, English or French of the marriage certificate or other documents attesting the change of name (if applicable);

7. Copy of a valid document attesting permanent residence. The document must clearly show the full address and attest the permanent residence (e.g. ID, residence permit, utility bill, etc.). If it is a declaration or a certificate, it must not be older than 6 months. If it is an identity document, it must be valid at the time of submission. The submitted document must be a copy of the original and a translated version into Romanian, English or French;

8. Copy of the passport;

9. Medical certificate (in original and in Romanian, English or French) attesting that the person to be registered for studies does not suffer from contagious diseases nor other deficiencies incompatible with the future profession. The certificate must be issued no more than 6 months prior to the application date;

10. Photograph – passport type

11. Consent statement regarding the agreement for the processing of personal data. Consent is freely given by uploading the file in the apply.upt.ro platform;

The application file shall comprise the following documents:

Application process for Doctoral study programmes

In order to apply for Doctoral studies at Politehnica University Timișoara:

  1. Check the admission calendar on this webpage.
  2. Obtain a provisional agreement from a PhD thesis coordinator affiliated with the Doctoral School. In order to be matched with a PhD coordinator, submit to scoaladoctorala@upt.ro a CV and a memorandum of activity, which should contain at least the following elements: the directions and study intentions considered for the doctoral program; the correspondence between the doctoral field and the previous education; the degree of initiation into research and/or practical activities; published or presented scientific papers on topics associated with the doctoral field; awards at the national phases of professional competitions in the specialized field.
  3. Should the PhD coordinator agree, the PhD can be carried out in English or in French. The Letter of Acceptance from the Ministry of Education and Research will mention the language of study.
  4. Should the PhD be carried out in Romanian: apply for the Romanian language preparatory year, or present proof of Romanian language knowledge.
  5. Submit the application file to the Doctoral School either in person at Office 103A, floor 1, Piata Victoriei nr. 2, Timisoara, or via e-mail at scoaladoctorala@upt.ro.

Tuition fee reimbursement (in case of visa rejection)

  1. You have 60 calendar days from the moment you receive the letter of acceptance to apply for the Romanian visa for studies.
  2. You have to apply for the visa no later than the 31st of December of the year of the admission campaign
  3. If your visa application is rejected by the Romanian embassy, you need to inform UPT’s Department for International Relations by uploading an official proof of visa refusal on https://apply.upt.ro/ within 15 calendar days from the date you received the refusal decision. This is required even if the applicant decides unilaterally to make an appeal to the initial visa refusal. If the applicant makes an appeal, the official and final answer must be uploaded on the admission platform, as soon as it is available.
  4. The request for a tuition fee refund must be submitted via the platform https://apply.upt.ro/ in maximum 30 calendar days from the visa refusal announcement, but without exceeding the date of April 30th of the academic year for which the applicant applied to.
  5. Please note that you will not receive a full refund. For example, in the case of a tuition fee of 2430 EUR, you will receive back 2308 EUR, as the Romanian Ministry of Education will tax UPT with 5% of the paid tuition fee.
