Deadlines

BACHELOR’S OR MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES:

  • March 1st, 2026– August 31st, 2026, 4 pm (Romanian time, GMT+3): Submit your application online via the platform https://apply.upt.ro/ or in person at the UPT Rectorate – Department for International Relations, office 107, Piața Victoriei no. 2, Timișoara.
    • Please note! For candidates who have been approved for deferred entry, the deferred entry application must be submitted on https://apply.upt.ro/ by March 30th, 2026 at the latest, in accordance with the methodology in force.
  • September 28th, 2026  –  January 31st, 2027:  Enrolment at Politehnica University Timișoara (UPT)
    • Students should plan their journey so that they can enrol before January 31st, 2027. Arrival in Romania after this date carries the risk of being refused entry at the border.
    • Enrolment at UPT requires students to be physically present at Politehnica University Timișoara, Department for International Relations , Office 107, Piața Victoriei no. 2, Timișoara. To enrol, candidates must present the original documents (diplomas, academic transcripts, medical certificate, passport) as well as copies of all documents provided in the application file.

DOCTORAL STUDIES:

Admission to the Romanian language preparatory year

Politehnica University Timișoara is accredited to organize the Romanian Language Preparatory Year in the following  fields: mathematics and natural sciences, engineering sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts, biological and biomedical sciences.

This intensive Romanian language course is compulsory for international students wishing to undertake full degree programmes taught in Romanian.

The tuition fee is 1980 EUR per academic year.

Application processing fee: 100 EUR per application.

The documents required for the Romanian Language Preparatory Year depend on the degree programme you wish to follow after completing the preparatory year:

  • Preparatory year followed by a bachelor’s degree -> the documents required for the preparatory year application are those required for the bachelor’s degree (see section below);
  • Preparatory year followed by a master’s degree -> the documents required for the preparatory year application are those required for the bachelor’s degree (see section below);

Admission to Bachelor's degree programmes

The application file for non-EU third-country nationals must contain the following documents:

1. Application form for the issuance of the letter of acceptance for studies (see section “Admission methodology and annexes” below) – fully and correctly filled in, including a photograph of the applicant, dated and signed;

2. Baccalaureate diploma or its equivalent – a copy and a legally certified translation (into Romanian, English or French), authenticated by the relevant authorities in the issuing country;

  • Applicants with diplomas issued in NIGERIA must also provide a front-and-back copy of the NECO results card for the high school certificate issued by NECO or of the WAEC Scratch card for the West African senior school certificate.
  • Certificate confirming successful completion of the baccalaureate examination – a copy and legally certified translation, for this year’s graduates only, where the diploma has not yet been issued;
  • Only those holding diplomas recognised by the Romanian Ministry of Education may apply. Check the list of  high school diplomas recognized by the Ministry of Education for the admission of foreign citizens to Bachelor studies.
  • It is recommended that the period between the completion of the candidate’s most recent studies (i.e. the date on which the last diploma was obtained) and the year in which the application is submitted should not exceed 5 years. By submitting an application without meeting this requirement, the candidate accepts the risk of being rejected by the faculty and/or the risk of not obtaining a visa.
  • Depending on the country in which the diplomas were issued, an apostille or legalisation procedure may be required, in accordance with the regulations on force. 3. Academic transcripts  – copies and translations into Romanian, English or French, legally certified by the relevant authorities in the issuing country;

4. Certificate of completion of the Romanian language preparatory year orcertificate of language proficiency, as applicable;

5. Birth certificate – a copy and a legally certified translation into Romanian, English or French;

6. Marriage certificate, or other documents attesting the change of name (if applicable) – a copy and a legally certified translation into Romanian, English or French;

7. Document certifying permanent residence – a copy and a translation into Romanian, English or French. The document must clearly state the full address and confirm the permanent residence (e.g. identity document, residence permit, utility bill, etc.). If it is a declaration or a certificate, it must not be older than 6 months. If it is an identity document, it must be valid at the time of submission.

8. Passport – copy;

9. Medical certificate (original and a translation into Romanian, English or French) certifying that the person applying to study does not suffer from any infectious diseases or other medical conditions incompatible with the future profession. The certificate must have been issued no more than 6 months prior to the date of submission of the application;

10. Passport-sized photograph;

11. Consent statement regarding the agreement for the processing of personal data. Consent is given freely  via the apply.upt.ro platform by uploading Annex 7;

12. Agreement regarding the acceptance of the tuition fee refund conditions

13. Proof of payment of the application processing fee (100€) into the university’s account.

Admission to Master's degree programmes

The application file for candidates applying for Master’s degree programmes must contain the following documents:

Application to Doctoral programmes

In order to apply for Doctoral studies at Politehnica University Timișoara:

  1. Please consult the admissions calendar on this webpage.
  2. Obtain a letter of pre-acceptance from a PhD coordinator affiliated with the Doctoral School of UPT. In order to be matched with a PhD coordinator, e-mail to scoaladoctorala@upt.ro a CV and a memorandum of activity (statement of research interests), which must include at least the following elements: the research areas and objectives envisaged for the doctoral programme; the alignment between the doctoral field and your prior training; your level of experience in research and/or practical activities; scientific papers published or presented on topics related to the doctoral field; awards won at the national phases of professional competitions in the your field of specialization.
  3. Doctoral studies may be undertaked in English or French only with the consent of the doctoral coordinator. In this case, a Letter of Acceptance is issued by the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research, specifying the language of study.
  4. Applicants to PhD programmes taught in Romanian must either apply for the Romanian preparatory year or provide evidence of their knowledge of the Romanian language. If you opt for the preparatory year, please visit the platform apply.upt.ro, apply for the preparatory year, and resubmit your application again the following year for PhD studies. The letter of pre-acceptance from the PhD coordinator is still required in this case.
  5. Submit your application file to the Doctoral School either in person at the UPT Rectorate (Office 103A, 1st floor, Piata Victoriei no. 2, Timisoara), or via e-mail to scoaladoctorala@upt.ro.

The application file must include the following documents:

Language requirements

For degree programmes where teaching is conducted in English, admission is conditional upon passing one of the following tests: TOEFL, Cambridge, IELTS, LCCI (London Chamber of Commerce & Industry), TRINITY ISE, ECL.

Alternatively, if you do not hold a certificate for any of the above tests, a test can be organised by UPT’s Faculty of Communication Sciences, at the applicant’s request, through the INTERLINGUA centre.

Those who can prove, by means of official school documents, that they have studied in the language of the study programme, for a period of at least two years are exempt from taking one of the above tests (ie. English was the medium of instruction for at least two years).

Application and tuition fees

REGISTRATION FEE

  • 100 EUR – application file processing fee (non-refundable), only for students who apply to the Romanian language preparatory year, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programmes. PhD applicants do not pay this fee.

Before paying the application fee, please ensure that you can still apply for your chosen programme (i.e. the “Apply Now” button is active). If not, we recommend that you select another programme for which places are still available. Please do not pay the application fee if the application process is no longer open.

TUITION FEES*:

  • 1980 EUR per academic year for the Romanian language preparatory year;
  • 1980 EUR per academic year for Bachelor’s/Master’s degree programmes in the fields of communication sciences, administrative sciences, applied modern languages;
  • 2430 EUR per academic year for Bachelor’s/Master’s degree programmes in the fields of engineering and computer science;
  • 3150 EUR per academic year  for Bachelor’s/Master’s degree programmes in the field of architecture;
  • 3480 EUR per academic year  for Doctoral studies in engineering;
  • 4440 EUR per academic year  for Doctoral studies in architecture.

*Partially refundable under the conditions set out in the PROCEDURE for organizing and conducting the admission for foreign citizens from EU third countries to bachelor and master programmes organized at Politehnica University Timisoara (see the section “Methodology”).

Applicants / students wishing to pay the tuition fee or application processing fee in cash are asked to follow these instructions:

  • Go only to the main branch of BCR in Timișoara, located at Calea Aradului no. 11
  • Present the following documents:
    • Identity document (e.g. passport, residence permit)
    • Proof of address (e.g. original residence permit and a copy of the accommodation contract, a certificate issued by the Department for International Relations).

If a Romanian citizen or resident is making the payment on your behalf, they must specify the applicant’s/student’s full name and the purpose of the transfer. For example: “Applicant’s full name – Application processing fee / Tuition fee for the academic year…”

Refund of tuition fees (if a student visa is not granted)

  • You have 60 calendar days from the date you receive your letter of acceptance to submit your application for the Romanian visa for studies.
  • You have to apply for the visa no later than the 31st of December of the year of the admission campaign.
  • If your visa application is rejected by the Romanian embassy, you must inform UPT’s Department for International Relations by uploading an official proof of visa refusal to https://apply.upt.ro/ within 15 calendar days of the date on which you received the refusal decision. This is required even if the applicant decides unilaterally to make an appeal to the initial visa refusal. If the applicant makes an appeal, the official and final answer must be uploaded on the admission platform, as soon as it is available, but without exceeding the date of April, 30th of the academic year for which the applicant applied to. If, for any reason, you are unable to submit the official proof via the apply.upt.ro platform, please send an e-mail to student-admissions@upt.ro.
  • Please note that you will not receive a full refund. For example, for a tuition fee of 2430 EUR, you will be refunded 2308 EUR, as the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research will retain 5% of the tuition fee paid .
